The boulder’s plaque reads: "This boulder marks the site of the old fort built in 1738 by the early settlers of Upper Ashuelot as a refuge from the Indians. This memorial erected in 1906 by Ashuelot Chapter D.A.R. and Keene Chapter S.A.R."
